Suri
Suri is an older adult who has agoraphobia. For years she experienced panic attacks when she would go out to crowded places like the supermarket. Going to a crowded shul on Yom Kippur filled her with crippling anxiety. Left untreated for years, her agoraphobia progressed to the point that she was afraid to leave her house. She could no longer go out to see her grandchildren or go to simchas. Suri’s daughter brought her to see a therapist at Pesach Tikvah. The therapist diagnosed her with agoraphobia and created a treatment plan. After a few months of treatment, Suri was able to go out by herself and even enjoy shul and simchas.
Michoel
Michoel is a married 40-year-old man who has Generalized Anxiety Disorder. The many demands of work and family life felt like too much for him to handle. He experienced chronic stomach pain and nausea, and back pain. Doctors could not find the source of his physical problems and he felt he was condemned to suffer indefinitely. Meanwhile, when the car wouldn’t start or his child got sick, he experienced unmanageable anxiety. Fortunately, one of his doctors suggested that anxiety might be the cause of his problems. He came to Pesach Tikvah and met with a therapist and a psychiatrist. Together they created a treatment plan for Michoel. Within a short time, his physical symptoms abated, and he was able to manage his stress.
Leiby
At age 12, Leiby was preparing for his bar mitzvah. The thought of reading from the Torah in front of other people petrified him. His phobia of public speaking was so strong that he began having trouble sleeping. He often was unable to eat. It took a great deal of courage for him to tell his parents how scared he was. His mother brought him to Pesach Tikvah for therapy. Fortunately it was in time for him to recover before his bar mitzvah. With treatment, Leiby did an amazing job at his bar mitzvah and felt proud of himself.
